It’s Italian Heritage month! Who doesn’t love the rich beauty of Italian culture, from food to art? This month, however, also gives us the chance to celebrate the brilliance and ingenuity of Italian scientist, inventors, explorers, engineers, and educators. They explored the heavens, crossed the world’s oceans, conceived of flight, and designed great buildings. They have impacted human existence throughout the centuries. At abcteach, you’ll find biographical and science units about a number of these Italian icons and their work to enrich your classroom this month and throughout the entire year.
However, we also want to give a special acknowledgement this month to Italian educator, Maria Montessori. The Montessori Method celebrates children’s natural curiosity and desire to learn, using materials that encourage self-directed learning. We join in that celebration with the on-going development of Montessori inspired materials for our Montessori section on the site.
